Author: Tom Davis
Tom Davis (born 1960, Birmingham, UK) joined the University of New South Wales in December 1992 following a stint as a research scientist/engineer in industry (ICI Runcorn, UK). Dr Davis was promoted to Professor in 2000. He served as Secretary of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Polymer Division in 1999 and is currently President-Elect. He has been a member of the IUPAC working party on free-radical polymerization kinetics since 1990. He serves on the advisory editorial boards of Journal of Macromolecular Science and the Journal of Materials Chemistry. His principal research interests are in free radical copolymerization, biomaterials and polymer characterization. Several patents have been filed on new catalytic reactions in emulsion, new drug delivery systems and a new highly oxygen permeable hydrogel contact lens material. He currently has more than 100 refereed publications. He received the Esso award in 2000 in recognition of significant innovations in Chemical Engineering. Tom is also a Project Leader in the Commonwealth Research Centre for Polymers, the Director of The Centre for Advanced Macrmolecular Design and has been appointed as the Director for Research in the School of Chemical Engineering & Industrial Chemistry at The University of New South Wales.
