Author: Shulman Zinovii Pinkhusovich
Z.P. Shulman, born in 1924, studied aerohydrodynamics in the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (Russia) and obtained Ph.D. in 1962 for exploration of the effect of heat and mass transfer upon transpiration on porous cooled walls. He got D.Sc. degree in rheophysics in 1970. The professional expertise includes both university teaching (full professor) and research & development. Professor Shulman Z.P. is the author and co-author of more than 400 scientific works. Among them 26 monographs and more than 200 patents of USSR, Czechoslovakia and USA. The basic books are: "Boundary Layer in Non-Newtonian Fluids", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1966, co-author B.M. Berkovsky; "Rheodynamics and Heat Transfer of Non-linear Viscoplastic Materials", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1970, co-authors B.M. Smolsky and V.M. Gorislavets; "Rheophysics of the Conglomerate Materials", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1978, co-author Ya.N. Kovalev; "Electrorheological Effect", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1972; "Magnetorheological Effect", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1982; "Unsteady Processes of Convective Transfer in Hereditary Liquids", Nauka i Tekhnika, Minsk, 1978, co-author B.M. Khusid; "Bubbles in Polymeric Liquids", Technomics, 1995, co-author S.P. Levitsky. Prof. Shulman Z.P. is the head of the Physics and Engineering Section of the Scientific Council of Belorussian Academy of Sciences and Vice-President of CIS Rheological Society. He honored by a personal gold medal of Sheffield University (for studies in the field of electrorheology) in 1988 and by the medal of International Center of Polymer Reprocessing (USA). In 1982 he became the winner-laureate of the Soviet Union National Inventors Contest. His works in the field of biotechnology and medicine where awarded by USSR National Diploma in 1986. Professor Shulman is a member of the editing stuff of the Journal of Engineering Physics, Izvestiya of Belorussian Academy of Sciences, Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering. He is also the head of the new CIS Biomedical Rheology Society, Winner-Laureate of G.V. Vinogradov Prize in 1997, head of the ,,Rheomed" - fundamental group for the modeling of biomedical rheology processes in living organisms, author of a chapter on rheology in International Hand-Book HEDB (USA).
