Michel BAUER, born in 1943, studied physics and chemistry and obtained his "Diplôme d'Ingénieur" in 1967 from the Ecole Suprérieure du Laboratoire (Paris). He also obtained a Ph. D in chemistry in 1972 at Paris University and is Doctor of Sciences at Toulouse University (1987). He has been working in pharmaceutical R and D for 30 years and is currently Director of the International Analytical Sciences Department of Sanofi-Synthelabo. He is a member of the French Pharmacopea and the European Pharmacopea. He is also a member of the European working group who developed the GC method for the search of residual solvents in the pharmaceutical product. He is a member of the Committee for Industrial Relationships (CIR) which is part of one the EUFEPS Committees including members representing pharmaceutical industry in many European countries.

Interests: He is interested by many topics dealing with analytical chemistry with a special emphasis concerning the techniques used to assess the solid state of the powder. In particular, he has given many lectures and published articles on polymorphism.
